Paranapiacaba

For Brazil´s Independence Day I went on a little hike in a nearby town called Paranapiacaba. (Great name huh?!)  We had a simple traditional Brazilian lunch while there.  As I was was waiting in line to use the restroom I took a quick photo of the kitchen where all the dishes were done by hand...at a restaurant...which is actually not uncommon.  It reminded me of my days working the dish machine.  I´m so thankful I had that!

The trail we hiked...  I´m pretty sure it was an off-roading trail, but we went on it to avoid having to go on a guided tour.

Daily Life

I often visit the market for produce and eggs.  Last year I wrote about the cashew.  Here is the fruit with the poison nut case!

I was able to visit the Museu do Futebol (Soccer Museum) here in Brazil 

Bathroom at the park- I thought it was interesting that they poked a hole in the top of a juice bottle to use as a soap dispenser!

Last year Sofia was in my class and on Sunday I was able to go to their home after church for lunch and a wonderful relaxing afternoon.

September 7th is Brazil´s independence day.  Here we are at school raising the US and Brazilian flags.

At the beginning of our Bible lesson I pretended to be sleepy because "I had bad dreams all night" (story of Pharaoh and Joseph interpreting his dreams). One of my little girls screams, "Ms. Sattler, you CAN'T be sleepy!! (She grabbed a Bible from the shelf and started shaking it.) You have to teach us about the BIBLE!!

Show and Tell: "Today I made a dinosaur out of snakes.  (thinks for a second)  A SNAKEASAURUS!" (just in case you wonder what that is note the photo below)

A little update

Lately I have noticed some dead chickens on our sidewalks.  I found out they are voodoo sacrifices people do.  Later I was at the park and saw this (note the photo below) as well.  On another note PACA was robbed a couple weeks ago and while all the buildings around my house were broken into during the night, our place was not.  We are so thankful for the protection God granted us.

Come to find out there is a berry tree outside our house, so I made berry-crisp with a friend after picking berries.
